The Wondrous Talking Dog... all about doggy health

This is Sammy, our amazing talking dog.
The video is only 37 seconds long, so please enjoy his conversation, but make sure to turn up your volume!

Do you know what he's saying? Imagine that cute furry face saying "Please, may I have some more?"

Black Labs are wonderful dogs! They are so very family oriented, protective of their families, and altogether possess the most amazing personalities. But because he's a member of our family, we must take the same care of him that we would a child. And he is very fat, as I am sure you can see in the video.

But our little Oliver Twist's extreme intelligence, for a family fur-person, scammed every member of the family into believing that we all forgot to feed him. I always feed him in the morning. Later, my husband would come in and view the act you see in the video. Yes, he always convinced my husband that I forgot. So he would feed him...again.

Later, my daughter fed him after school. Yes, you guessed it, with that act above? She thought we had all forgotten! So she would feed him...again. Three meals for the price of one! He is a great little con-man, isn't he? We all wondered why he was gaining so much weight! Then, we compared notes. He's a very smart little man!

But being overweight can be so harmful for a dog. He became lethargic. His energy levels depleted so quickly. I thought he was just getting old, but he wasn't. Upon taking him to the vet, we learned that he had managed to gain 30 pounds in one year!!! How, do you ask? Because we see him every single day, the total weight gain escaped us. Like a child you don't see for a year and then suddenly run into. It seems he grew overnight! But obesity can be just as damaging to a dog as it can for a non-fur-person. And we want him to live for a very long time!

So now, poor Sammy is on a diet. He is NOT liking this, as you can see. He tries to convince us that he is starving, though we know he is ok. We got the straight facts from the vet, so we KNOW how much to feed him now. But the vet also told us how to give him the feeling of being full... I had NO idea that dogs liked vegetables! Yes, he gets green beans and peas to fill his perpetually empty (he thinks) tummy. And it is beginning to work. He already has more energy. It's so much fun to watch him run in the yard, chasing tennis balls and giving chew-toys a bare chance for survival!

Please, watch your pup's diets so you can enjoy them for a long time to come. We want them around forever, right?

Otherwise, why would it be called "fur-niture?"
