Cabinets, dogs, and daughters...

I have (slowly) been refinishing my kitchen cabinets. Slowly, because I really want them to look nice, so I am sanding assiduously and staining only a few doors at a time.

Yet, I just realized...I wouldn't be required to sand half so much if we didn't have a dog. He's a sweet dog. A wonderful, big, doofus of a dog. A much-loved dog. A hairy dog.

I realized that I am sanding more dog hairs out of the stain than anything else! But, he's a sweet dog and I wouldn't give him up just for a few cabinet doors. I guess he is worth the work. . . until I am sanding, than I really want to find him some new, loving owners who are not remodeling. But then I am done, and I love him again.

I wanted to take as much time as I needed to complete this project. Mainly, because I also want to enjoy my summer break! But, now I find out my beautiful oldest daughter arrives for her birthday in only two weeks. Which she is having here. Oh, my.

So now? I am assiduously sanding and staining cabinets, as quickly as I can manage. I am also suddenly cleaning the house, working on the floors, organizing the garage/bar/entertainment room, and planning to work on the back yard. All much quicker than originally intended. Plus, I must finish the decorations on the bar in the garage and get some more stools. Tables might help, too. Oh, hey! A dining room table would be lovely! (The other one moved in with said oldest daughter when said daughter moved on to the Navy.)

So my nice relaxing summer has come to a halt. I am about to become super-mom with a paint brush in one hand, a saw in the other, and a weedeater in...hmmm...guess I'll be holding the paint brush in my teeth.

Here we go!!!

To finish with the dog hair look I just normally dip the dogs tail in the stain and use that instead of a brush. The dog will mnatch the cabinets so no problem.

That would be a great idea, but the dog is already darker than the cabinets! And I don't think his tail is up to the task...not bushy enough. Back to sand-paper!
